Platform Panel Project

St Leonards-on-Sea's Platform Panel Project at St Leonards Warrior Square (SLWS) Station raises awareness of local railway history in this coastal town in East Sussex. This community arts project highlights those who built and worked on the railway when it first opened.

Phase 1 of the project was generously supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Chalk Cliff Trust. The project team are currently seeking funding for phase 2.

The panels are designed by early career artist Yasmin Aishah who grew up in St Leonards-on-Sea. Aishah’s early career colleagues have created the audio access. The panels at the western end of the platform, near the Bo Peep tunnel entrance, have been created by artist collaborators, ARRAN and Jules Earl, who reflect the transient workforce the project highlights.

ExploreTheArch and Southeast Communities Rail Partnership have collaborated with Network Rail and Southeastern Railway to realise this project. In the first phase, the core team connected with community groups Hastings and Bexhill Mencap’s Active Arts, Hastings Local History Group, Kings Road traders and Zoom Arts to launch the project as part of the A Town Explores A Book festival in 2024.
